Eli Harris, Life Insurance Broker

About Me

Eli founded Vellum & Sigil with a straightforward belief: people deserve honest, clear guidance—not a high-pressure sales pitch.

His approach is built on consumer advocacy and clarity. Eli would always rather you walk away empowered with a solid understanding of your options than feel rushed into a policy that doesn't fit your budget or long-term goals. Bringing a broad background as an independent insurance advisor, notary public, and consumer advocate, he applies a practical, detail-oriented perspective to every client conversation.

Eli specializes in impaired-risk and high-risk life insurance—helping clients with pre-existing health conditions, past diagnoses, or unique lifestyle factors secure coverage with underwriters who understand their situation. He is also AHIP-certified to sell Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D plans, helping clients navigate their options during Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period and beyond.

Whether auditing an existing policy to prevent rate traps, structuring key-person protection and buy-sell funding for a business, or tailoring personal coverage for a household, Eli takes the time to listen, shop top-rated carriers, and explain every nuance in plain English. Outside of advising clients, he stays active in local community initiatives, follows regional industry developments, and enjoys creative pursuits including handicrafts, karaoke, and watercolor painting.

Q&A with Eli Harris

What is the most common mistake people make when buying life insurance?

Answer: Not shopping for the best fit and applying for the first product that comes to them. Any agent who recommends a particular product without ever asking you about your situation (goals, budget, and health profile) is fitting you to their product, not finding the best product for you. Working with an independent broker means they can do the shopping for you.

Can a life insurance agent also help me with health insurance?

Answer: It depends. States issue separate licenses for life insurance and health insurance. If your agent is licensed and appointed to sell health insurance, then they can. If you have a life agent you like, ask them if they can also assist with health coverage.

Why is my final life insurance rate higher than the quote I got online?

Answer: Online quotes are generic and make assumptions based on your entries. When you apply, the company assesses your health and financial profile and make a final determination. Your rate can be more, less, or the same as the initial quote.
