Q&A with Joseph Lombardo
Can I switch life insurance companies without losing coverage?
Answer: Yes, you can. If you decide to change life insurance carriers, the process is fairly simple. You would go through the same process as you did when you first took out a life insurance, the only difference is that you're indicating on the application that you are replacing a policy. Your life insurance agent would fill out the proper paperwork and follow the rules of your resident state to replace your current policy. Once completed and if your new life insurance policy is accepted, the new carrier will contact the old carrier to stop payment of your old policy (however, in my experience, it's best to make sure you call your old carrier to stop payment). But before you stop payment on your old policy, make sure you make a payment to bind your new policy. This would make sure continuous coverage will be secured. Hope this helps.
What is the most common mistake people make when buying life insurance?
Answer: i think the biggest mistake folks make when they look for life insurance is not having the proper type of coverage in place, in terms of Term verses Permanent policies. Term policies and permanent policies both have a place in the financial planning process and whether one is better than the other, depends on what the person taking out the coverage is looking to achieve. An experienced, licensed agent, such as myself, can guide you through your goals and fit you with the right type of coverage.
Can I get life insurance if I've been denied coverage before?
Answer: Yes, you can get coverage, even if you've been denied before. Every life insurance company has their own unique standards for acceptance, and an experience agent can help place you with the right one. Guaranteed issue coverage is also a possibly for when all other options have failed.
