Q&A with Joshua Price
What questions should a first-time life insurance buyer ask their agent?
Answer: A first time life insurance buyer should ask his or her agent 2 questions are as follows:
1) Are you a licensed agent?- The reason for this question is to make sure that they are licensed and that they are qualified to serve you.
2) Are you a captive agent or an independent agent/broker? The jobs are the same between the two, however, there are major differences between the roles. A captive agent can only represent one company and what they have to offer. The independent broker shops all of the insurance companies to see what is the right fit for you. An independent broker/ agent, keeps you and in your situation at the forefront of his mind while shopping for you.
Is whole life insurance the same as permanent life insurance?
Answer: The answer is yes they are the same thing.
The words whole life and permanent life are interchangeable but it is the same thing. The premiums for it is much higher than other forms of life insurance. When considering your options make sure you understand that as you get older the premiums will continue to increase until you lock in your contract. The longer you wait the more you will have to pay for it, which is why I tell young people, get it now while you can to save money in the future.
Can you get life insurance to cover your mortgage?
Answer: Absolutely you can! I can tailor your policy to cover anything you want to cover. Not only can we cover your mortgage, I can pay off your debts, replace your income, and even help you leave behind enough money to pay your child’s education expenses, if you desire that.
Why do I need life insurance if I am young and healthy?
Answer: Great question! Some of my prospective clients have asked me the same question, and here is my exact response every time. Although you might be healthy right now, you will at some point have a turn in your health. It might not be tomorrow, or in a year from right now, but sometime over the next 20 years, you will have a health crisis. Given that fact, when you are ''ready'' for life insurance, you might not qualify for it; or you might qualify, but it will be very expensive to own a policy that you won't be able to afford it.
Once I take time to explain this, I will show them a policy where they might qualify for Living Benefits, which, if they were to have an unexpected illness or a qualifying disability, they could use some of their policy while they are still alive. It is a life-changing decision, that if you were to get this, your family would be relieved that they don't have to come up with any additional money.
Do you have to pay taxes on life insurance benefits?
Answer: The short answer is no, you don't pay taxes on life insurance benefits. The more direct answer is under the IRS Tax Code 7702, which protects any life insurance benefits from being taxed.
