What is the most common mistake people make when buying life insurance?
Answer: Depending on your stage in life, will depend on the answer. Most commonly people choose the wrong type of policy in general for their needs. Younger folks with families may underestimate the amount of coverage needed on their policy. Or relying on an Employer based policy. Finally, waiting too long to buy a policy this will only mean higher premiums or risk being denied due to health isssues.
What questions should a first-time life insurance buyer ask their agent?
Answer: What kind of policy is it? (Whole Life, Term, IUL, etc). Does it have any riders on it? Terminal Illness rider, Chronic Illness Rider, Long-term care rider, Accelerated Death Benefits, Critical Illness Rider and Premium Protection Riders. There are other riders such as Coverage Expansion Riders typically used for a plus one.
What is the difference between joint life and survivorship life insurance?
Answer: The main distinction between the two is that joint life insurance pays out when one person passes on. Survivorship life insurance only pays out after both persons have passed on.
Can I get life insurance if I have had cancer?
Answer: Yes, Guaranteed Issue Life insurance will except you, Others may have a 5 year or better waiting period up to 10 years. Some carriers will deny certain types of cancer or stage. Yet there are others that have no waiting period to qualify such as Prostate or Breast if early enough).
