Do I need an agent who specializes in whole life insurance, or can any life insurance agent help me?

Answered by 4 licensed agents

I would consider working with a seasoned life insurance broker that handles both term and permanent policies.

Do you need an agent who specializes in whole life insurance?

Not necessarily.

Most life insurance agents can help with whole life.

But experience matters when the situation is more complicated.

Older applicant?

Health conditions?

Final-expense coverage?

Limited budget?

In those cases, an agent who regularly works with these situations may have more options to consider.

The goal isn't to find an agent who only sells whole life.

It's to find an agent who understands the problem you're trying to solve.

Any licensed life insurance agent can sell you whole life, so you don't need a specialist, but experience matters.

A good agent should clearly explain guaranteed versus projected values, dividends, and what happens if you stop paying, and ideally compare policies from several insurers.

For an agent that has over 42 years of experience, you know that they have worked with various life insurance plans and usually will be helpful.

A second opinion, a fee-only financial planner can review a policy before you commit.

Any life agent can help, but it'll be very beneficial to the client if they talk to someone who specializes in the particular product or service you need.
