How long does it take to get approved for life insurance?

Answered by 5 licensed agents

Life insurance approval times can vary depending on the insurance company and your health history. In many cases, approval can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks while the carrier reviews medical records, prescription history, driving records, and other underwriting requirements before making a final decision.

It takes anywhere from a few minutes to eight weeks to get approved for life insurance. The exact timeline depends heavily on the type of policy you choose and how deeply the insurance company needs to review your health.

Instant or No-Exam Policies: Approval takes 24 hours to a few days (and sometimes minutes) because they use accelerated underwriting without a physical exam.

Traditional Fully Underwritten Policies: Approval takes 4 to 8 weeks on average because insurers must review medical records, driving history, and lab results from a physical exam.

Policies are all designed differently and Are Underwriting necessities are reflected in both premium and time. I have policies that I can write and give you an approval answer on the spot! Others, depending on amount of benefit and type of Life Insurance could take weeks based on needing more or less qualifications such as MIB reports, blood and urine specimens, etc.

This really depends on the insurance company and the customer. Some Insurance companies offer almost instant issue after a quick DMV report, prescription drug check, and Medical Information database search. Other Insurance policies may require a paramedical exam and copies of medical records for the underwriting team to review. It can take a couple of weeks to a couple of months to get that data to the underwriter for review. Work with an agent that offers multiple insurance carrier options. Some insurance companies may have more favorable underwriting than others.
