Should I get life insurance before or after having a baby?

Answered by 4 licensed agents

Before, honestly. Get it locked in while you're pregnant if you can, rates are based on your health at the time you apply and a lot of new moms end up dealing with stuff postpartum that can complicate underwriting or bump up your premium. Waiting until after the baby's here also just means one more thing on your plate during a chaotic few months. If you want to run numbers before the due date I can get you quotes nice and quick.

After the baby has been born is the best time to seek life insurance coverage. Make sure to reach out to a life insurance agent to review the various coverages available to your newborn.

before. That way there is money set aside for the child’s future if you die before, it is born also you’ll walk in your age a year sooner, which will lower your rate than waiting

Birthing a child in itself doesn’t prevent getting insurance nor should affect premium or create extra underwriting. So long as you are healthy, if conditions are developed during pregnancy these could create underwriting questions.

I’d say the earlier the better, pregnant or not.
