Is it better to buy life insurance online or through an agent?

Answered by 4 licensed agents

Whether it's better to buy life insurance online or through an agent depends on your situation, but for most people, working with a knowledgeable agent provides significant advantages. Buying online can be quick and convenient, especially for simple situations and smaller coverage amounts. However, online platforms generally offer limited guidance and may not help you understand all of your options.

An experienced agent can help determine the appropriate amount of coverage, explain the differences between policy types, compare multiple insurance companies, and identify solutions that fit your specific goals and budget. An agent can also help navigate medical underwriting, answer questions throughout the process, and provide ongoing service after the policy is issued.

Life insurance is one of the most important financial decisions a family can make. While buying online may seem easier, having professional guidance can help ensure you purchase the right coverage and avoid costly mistakes. The goal is not simply to get a policy approved, it's to make sure your family is properly protected.

Always through an agent. It is totally fine to do your research online but then reach out to an agent to put the policy in place. The price should be the same due to the fact that the insurance company has to pay licensed agents on their staff to take care of their clients. So, if the price is the same, why wouldn't you want local representation for your service needs like, changing beneficiaries, updating banking information, professional education, unbiased advice (independent agent) etc.

Always use an agent when buying life insurance or any orher type of insurance. This way you will always have someone to contact with issues that care.

An agent can find policies not available online and offer tailored solutions that fit budget, health, and savings needs. Online policies can be quick, but also can be more expensive than necessary.
