What are the best sources of life insurance leads for agents, and are purchased leads worth the money?

Answered by 4 licensed agents

Yes, mailers are still number one as far as I am concerned and referrals but some agents like myself have used internet leads but they are shared in most cases and not as effective.

Depending on the lead vendor, purchased leads can be worth the money. There are numerous lead vendors whose clients (producers) have great success with due to the level of intent their leads generate. Caution must be exercised as many lead vendors are unscrupulous or non-compliant to TCPA regulations. Others offer only aged leads.

Online forums that producers visit will often have reviews or critiques of lead vendors.

Another source is generating your own leads using social media, as that is the main venue for the lead vendors in the first place. Ads can be purchased or you can generate leads for free by engaging people in your circle.

Referrals, many agents would argue. are the warmest leads of all.

That’s a great question, especially if you’re just getting into the business.

There really isn’t a perfect lead vendor, and just because a lead costs more doesn’t mean it’s going to turn into a sale. Once you find a lead vendor that works well for you, it really comes down to the person buying the lead and whether they have the right tools, knowledge, and mindset to help that person and ultimately bless their client with life insurance.

Referrals and existing clients are usually the highest-converting and cheapest leads you'll ever get. Since you're also doing Open Enrollment work, your Medicare or health clients are a natural fit for final expense conversations. Asking every satisfied client for a referral, and following up after a policy is placed, pays off over time.
