Can I get life insurance if I have a felony conviction or am on probation?

Answered by 3 licensed agents

The answer is yes but the rules do change depending on the type of policy you are seeking. So the best bet is to have an agent look into that for you once you decide what type of plan is in your best interest

If you are convicted of a Felony there are companies that will insure you. The premium is most likely going to be more. If you are on probation it is unlikely that you can get insured because of the unknown.

It's possible, though I would recommend you work with an experienced independent agent/broker/producer, as each carrier has different requirements. For felonies, the time since conviction/release will become important, as recent felonies can be challenging to underwrite. Expect to have to explain the circumstances and what has changed. Many carriers will want there to have been a number of years since the final disposition of the case before entertaining a policy. For probation, you will likely be denied since the case is still active. Most, carriers will automatically decline applications if you are currently in jail, on probation/parole, or have pending (unresolved) charges. You *may* be able to get a guaranteed issue policy, but expect higher premiums and lower coverage amounts.
