Are there life insurance policies with no waiting period?

Answered by 4 licensed agents

Yes. Many term life and fully underwritten whole life policies have no waiting period and provide coverage as soon as the policy is approved and in force. Waiting periods are more common with guaranteed issue life insurance.

Life insurance policies do not have a "waiting" period, they have an effective date. What they do have are what's called contestability period, typically 2 years after the policy is issued. If the insured passes within the first two years of the policy, the insurance carrier can contest the claim of payment to the beneficary(ies) because of health issues or incorrect information provided by the insured at time of application.
