Can I get life insurance if I'm overweight or obese?

Answered by 8 licensed agents

Yes you can get coverage in these situations. The unfortunate thing will be for those carriers that will underwrite this the cost will be expensive. Not all carriers will approve individuals in this situation either. In these cases you would definitely want to work with a broker and one with experience with tough underwriting.

Yes.

Being overweight or obese does not automatically disqualify you from getting life insurance, although it may affect your premiums depending on your height, weight, overall health, and any related medical conditions. Many insurers have different underwriting guidelines, so it's often possible to find competitive coverage even if one company offers less favorable rates.

Yes, you can get life insurance if you are overweight or obese. There are several companies that still write policies without reading you up, but you may have to pay a higher cost for your life insurance.

Yes! Being overweight or obese doesn't automatically prevent you from qualifying for life insurance. Rates are based on your overall health, medical history, and height/weight, and many carriers offer coverage for individuals of all body types. A licensed agent can help you find the best option for your situation.

Final expense insurance is generally a smaller face amount, permanent whole life insurance policy designed to help cover end-of-life expenses—hence the name. The death benefit is commonly used to pay for funeral and burial costs, outstanding medical bills, or other final debts.

Compared to traditional life insurance, final expense policies typically offer lower death benefits, simplified underwriting (often with no medical exam), and are easier for many older adults to qualify for. Traditional life insurance is usually purchased to provide larger amounts of financial protection, such as income replacement, paying off a mortgage, funding education, or leaving a legacy for loved ones.

I am appointed with one insurance carrier that does not require height and weight questions. It would only take a little time to answer a few medical questions to be pre-qualified. Call my cell phone or business number to set an appointment. Thank you for your time and interest.

It can be done. How much overweight matters. It also depends on what kind of policy you want. Do you need term? If you are too obese the anser could be no. If you are looking at a smaller final expense type policy there are plenty of companies that will cover you. My suggestion is to get what you can and if your health/weight improves then try to get a less expensive policy later on, but don't go uncovered till then.
